I love what you did with this shoot. Your decision to go monochrome is spot on and the exposure and contrast work quite well together with the title you’ve given the image.
I’m not sure I agree with your assessment in calling the other shots “failed” because they are each lovely in their own way–maybe they aren’t so much “failed” as “succeeding in a way you were not looking for”? The first one you have listed (with the smoke going off to the side) is really dynamic!
