This is Vihar lake, Powai. The one major reason I like the campus so much is the greenery and the lakes on two sides :). I will miss the trekking to Sameer Hill. That place is so out of the world and you forget everything while there. It is actually an HDR but I have reduced the HDR type characteristics to minimum.
Yay! I am back in Mumbai. I have a loads of photographs to upload and a lots of ideas but first I have to get a job to survive here. I maybe uploading more than 1 photograph per day to make up for the days I missed.
The above photograph was taken at Jaipur Railway station. I have done a lot of hard work on the post-processing and I hope you like it
It was a wonderful morning. On the other hand I think all mornings are wonderful except the fact that I spent most of them sleeping. This was the first time I made an HDR involving a person. I was able to do that because this person was completely engulfed in the book. He was reading ‘Gitanjali’, the Nobel Prize winner book from Rabindra Nath Tagore. I am dedicating this photograph of mine to this great artist with a fantastic poem written by him. Flickr link for a much better view.
Passing Breeze
Yes, I know, this is nothing but thy love,
O beloved of my heart—this golden light that dances upon the leaves,
these idle clouds sailing across the sky,
this passing breeze leaving its coolness upon my forehead.
The morning light has flooded my eyes—this is thy message to my heart.
Thy face is bent from above, thy eyes look down on my eyes,
and my heart has touched thy feet.
In the series of my HDR images, I tried taking HDR without sunset. HDR photographs generally have bright colors and huge details. So I decided to shoot one of my favourite places: Coffee Shack of IIT Bombay, as its colors are very vibrant and I like its hut shaped structure.
As usual I started with a trial photograph with a quick understanding of the place.
The lights were very low as it was nearly 6:00 PM. I liked this view of the hut but din’t like the gutter cover. So I decided to change my position to a closer point.
Now the hut was looking slightly disproportionate, so I slightly changed my angle.
This frame looked nice to me, so I fixed my tripod and shot 6 photographs at different exposures. They were merged by using Photoshop HDR pro to get and HDR image. I tried using Photomatrix ( a separate software which specializes in making HDRs ) but couldn’t get the hang of it. I am still not able to create HDRs as I see on internet but I have improved.

Aim: To experiment with the technique of HDR (High Dynamic Range)
Idea: To capture sunset as the sky is very dynamic at that time.
Shot in the daylight after a long time. I noticed a few points about HDR shooting while preparing for the shoot.
1. As it is to capture a wide spectrum of tones, you must have that much amount of detail in the scene
2. Use tripod as a slight change in position can produce ghost type effects while creating HDR
3. You can use the Photoshop plugin- HDR Pro or the software designed for HDR only- Photomatrix Pro
This is the trial HDR. I found this boat quite interesting to use as a foreground. As the sun is high in the sky there is not much gradation of tones there. So, I decided to wait till sunset.
The above shot was looking quite static. I changed the camera position to give the boat a more dynamic feel. I fixed my tripod at this position.
This is the final HDR image I created. There are few things I like about it and others which can be improved. Such as:
1. I like the details of the texture in the boat.
2. The sky, both colors and details could have been better.
3. The camera position could have been changed slightly to give a more 3D dynamic view of boat.

Couldn’t resist to re-edit the image. Worked on the sky, made the reds less luminant, removed the blue cast over mountains/hills and darken the greyish shades just above the hills.
How do you like the new version? What more you suggest to improve?
